{"id":232,"date":"2026-05-10T10:50:12","date_gmt":"2026-05-10T10:50:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/waramutse.icu\/?p=232"},"modified":"2026-05-13T10:55:54","modified_gmt":"2026-05-13T10:55:54","slug":"rwanda-football-community-pays-tribute-to-genocide-victims-linked-to-kiyovu-sports","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/waramutse.icu\/?p=232","title":{"rendered":"Rwanda Football Community Pays Tribute to Genocide Victims Linked to Kiyovu Sports"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Members of Rwanda\u2019s football community gathered on Monday to commemorate victims of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi who were associated with Kiyovu Sports.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The memorial event brought together players, coaches, club officials, and football leaders, who learned about the history behind the genocide before laying wreaths and observing a moment of silence for more than 250,000 victims buried at the memorial site.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Shema Ngoga Fabrice said the Rwanda Football Federation remains committed to promoting unity and ensuring genocide never happens again.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cUnity is one of the most important values within FERWAFA because it helps us build our country while remembering the tragic history Rwanda went through,\u201d he stated.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>Ngoga also shared a personal story, revealing that his uncle, a former Kiyovu Sports official, was killed during the genocide, while his grandfather was reportedly among the club\u2019s founders.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>FERWAFA leaders said they plan to continue teaching genocide history within the sports sector and hope to establish a national memorial dedicated to athletes and sports personalities killed during the genocide.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The event concluded with special tributes to former Kiyovu Sports players and supporters who lost their lives in 1994.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Members of Rwanda\u2019s football community gathered on Monday to commemorate victims of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi who were associated with Kiyovu Sports.
