Kamonyi, Rwanda – Gacurabwenge Sector has emerged as the best performer in Kamonyi District after achieving 100% of its 98 targets in the 2024/2025 performance contracts (Imihigo). The sector also excelled in special categories such as Ejo Heza savings, VIUP loans, and the new “Byikorere” digital self-service program.
Speaking to Intyoza.com, Executive Secretary Martha Umugiraneza said the secret behind their success was teamwork and strong collaboration with partners. “There is no secret. Once we sign the contracts, we go through them with staff and partners, and we commit to finishing today’s task without postponing it to tomorrow,” she explained.
Among the challenges was the new “Byikorere” initiative, which requires citizens to request services directly using their own phones or computers instead of visiting Irembo agents. Despite limited access to smartphones and computers among many residents, Gacurabwenge successfully reached the national target where at least 20% of services are applied for digitally by citizens themselves.
Umugiraneza praised the contribution of citizens: “They are our clients and key partners. Most of these achievements were possible because of their active involvement.”
At the award ceremony held at Kamonyi District headquarters, Gacurabwenge Sector received the overall trophy, winning over 95% of all prizes awarded. Runda Sector ranked second, followed by Kayenzi Sector. Villages and partners who supported the district in achieving the 2024/2025 Imihigo were also recognized.
The event also marked the signing of the 2025/2026 performance contracts between sectors and the district leadership.
