For years, Vision 2020 Umurenge Program (VUP) beneficiaries spent hours traveling to SACCO branches to withdraw support funds. Today, thanks to a new campaign by LODA, many are doing it with just a few taps on their phones.

The initiative, called “My Phone, My Money,” is helping residents link their SACCO accounts with SIM cards under their names, making it possible to receive payments and carry out transactions digitally.

In Gicumbi, Anatole Bagirubwira described how the system saved him three hours of travel: “Now I can access my money quickly and invest the time in activities that improve my life,” he said.

LODA Director General Claudine Nyinawagaga explained that beyond convenience, the campaign enhances financial security and supports Rwanda’s poverty-reduction strategy. “Every hour saved is an opportunity for citizens to be more productive,” she noted.
