Dr. Fatmata from United Nations Development Programme says genuine gender equality is achieved when government institutions provide equal benefits and opportunities for all citizens.

Speaking at a high-level discussion in Kigali on May 21, 2026, she stressed that gender-responsive budgeting is not about creating a separate budget for women, but ensuring public resources serve everyone fairly.

The meeting, organized by the Rwanda Women Parliamentary Forum, brought together senators, members of parliament, government officials, development partners, and UN representatives.

Dr. Fatmata emphasized that budgets reflect national priorities and leadership accountability, urging lawmakers to continue monitoring whether public funds truly reach intended beneficiaries.

She also commended Rwanda’s Parliament for its role in promoting inclusive governance and overseeing equitable use of public resources.
