Authorities in Rwanda’s Southern Province have destroyed hundreds of kilograms of narcotics and illicit alcohol in an ongoing campaign against drug-related crimes.
The operation, carried out on May 21, 2026, involved Rwanda National Police, Rwanda Investigation Bureau, and local residents from all eight districts of the province.
Police spokesperson CIP Hassan Kamanzi said the public destruction exercise is intended to raise awareness about the dangers drugs pose to communities.
Among the destroyed substances were over 480 kilograms of marijuana, more than 400 liters of Kanyanga, and 35 liters of Igikwangari.
Kamanzi praised the growing cooperation between citizens and security institutions in fighting drug trafficking and abuse.
He urged the public to avoid involvement in narcotics, warning that both users and dealers face serious legal consequences.
