At the official launch of the Africa School of Governance’s third university-level program in Kigali on September 25, President Paul Kagame engaged with 51 students from 14 African nations on the realities of leadership.

Asked what keeps him awake at night, Kagame explained that Rwanda’s persistent challenges—including poverty, national security, and unity—remain his foremost concern. He emphasized that leadership is not about one person finding all the answers but about ensuring citizens understand and embrace their role in problem-solving.

“What troubles me most is when people fail to realize their responsibility in building solutions,” Kagame said, highlighting Rwanda’s historical struggles and the need for collective resilience.

The President also pointed to the external pressures African nations often face from global powers seeking to impose their interests.

Former Ethiopian Prime Minister Hailemariam Desalegn, who co-founded the Africa School of Governance with Kagame, applauded his leadership, calling him a model for the continent.

Since its establishment in October 2023, ASG has positioned itself as a continental hub for advancing good governance and preparing the next generation of African leaders.
