Rwanda’s Development Bank of Rwanda has launched a major financing program that will provide more than RWF 1.4 billion in affordable loans to farmers, youth, women, refugees, and people with disabilities.
The program was officially launched at Ishema SACCO in Nyamagabe District, where beneficiaries signed loan agreements aimed at expanding businesses and increasing agricultural productivity.
The “Kataza” loan package targets young entrepreneurs under 35 years old working in agriculture, livestock, tourism, and hospitality. Beneficiaries can access loans with interest rates below 9%.
The second package, “Iganze Muhinzi Mworozi,” focuses on supporting farmers and livestock keepers with long-term financing at reduced interest rates.
Nyamagabe farmer Mukayiranga Josiane said the loan already helped her grow her farming business significantly, increasing both production and employment opportunities in her community.
Southern Province Executive Secretary Nshimiyimana Védaste encouraged beneficiaries to use the loans effectively to boost productivity and contribute to Rwanda’s NST2 development goals.
Officials say the partnership between BRD and district SACCOs is expected to improve access to affordable credit and drive inclusive economic development across Rwanda.
