French judges have dismissed the case against Agathe Kanziga Habyarimana, widow of former Rwandan President Juvénal Habyarimana, who was accused of playing a role in the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi.

The judges ruled there was no evidence linking Kanziga to genocide planning, despite survivor groups pushing for investigations since 2008. France’s anti-terrorism prosecutor had appealed in May 2025, but the appeal was rejected.

Kanziga, 82, has lived in France since being evacuated on April 9, 1994. Analysts say her protection reflects long-standing political ties between France and Rwanda’s former regime. Survivor groups vow to keep pressing for accountability.
