Security agencies in Kenya are closely monitoring a planned political rally in Kakamega County following allegations of potential security threats.
Western Regional Police Commander Issa Mahmoud claimed that intelligence reports indicated some individuals linked to Senator Edwin Sifuna might be armed as they travel from Nairobi.
Mahmoud said police had not received formal notification of the rally, with information circulating mainly through social media. He emphasised that officers are prepared to facilitate lawful assemblies but will enforce public order.
The rally is scheduled to take place in Amalemba, Kakamega town.
The situation follows reports that Sifuna’s convoy was attacked by unknown individuals who allegedly hurled stones at one of the vehicles while it was travelling toward Kakamega.
Sifuna has insisted that the event will proceed as planned.
Authorities say adequate personnel will be deployed to ensure security during the gathering.
