Rwandan journalist Glory Iribagiza has appealed directly to Paul Kagame, saying she feels failed by institutions handling her sexual assault complaint.

In an open letter dated May 13, 2026, the The New Times journalist said she reported the alleged incident at the Rwanda Investigation Bureau Isange One Stop Center in Kacyiru in late September 2025.

Iribagiza said she was medically examined and received psychological support, but claimed she experienced poor communication and delays while trying to follow up on the investigation.

She also alleged that although the suspect was later arrested, the individual was released shortly afterward for reasons she says were never clearly explained to her.

After her public statement gained attention online, RIB confirmed that investigators had arrested and detained the suspect before forwarding the case to prosecutors. The bureau stated that the suspect was later released following court proceedings and medical evidence assessments.

The matter has prompted public debate, with some citizens urging authorities to ensure justice for victims of sexual violence, while others warned against mishandling allegations without sufficient evidence.
